Also wondering why the usual consumers of news entertainment are comfortable with the representation of the situations they receive. For one, to have about the same opinion as the mainstream of others, not to be called a querulous person, a grumbler (if that is the word)?
on the other hand the common disease of the tv-infestation: self-deception and idleness. In german the word even is: faul, Faulheit corresponding to the english: foul. Self-deception and willing to be lied to. Because it is easy to read other news in the internet. But though probably quite many get other information, who knows.

Juan Cole is being mercilessly flayed by his commentors for his apparent lack of intellectual rigour on the Iran election beat-up. My suspicions of Cole's loyalty to mainstream political correctness were aroused when I realised he prefers to base his under-estimates of Iraqi casualties on the studiously non-rigorous Iraq (media) Body Count rather than the infinitely more trustworthy and reliable Lancet estimate. Why a professed intellectual would prefer a tally based on media reports sourced from a military which doesn't 'do (ie report) body counts' is a position I'd like to see Prof Cole justify at length and in detail.
